While we understand that it is difficult to find the time to complete a simulated GRE session in a single sitting, based upon our extensive experience, it would be a disservice to you to encourage partial completion of a simulated exam.

While practice sessions and drills have their place in GRE preparation, our software is meant to recreate the actual exam experience from beginning to end. The GRE requires a significant time investment. In fact, time management throughout an entire GRE session (both maintaining uninterrupted focus and working efficiently) is the major factor in every student's final score. Thus, we want our software to assist students by preparing them for the rigors of comprehensive time management throughout a complete exam session. Although it can be an inconvenience, we believe you'll thank us for forcing you to find the uninterrupted time to practice with an authentic simulator.

That said, you do have the option to quit our exams at any time and then resume later from the same computer. We do not recommend using it unnecessarily, but we added this resume feature to our software for students who unexpectedly need to quit an active session. Anytime you quit an incomplete GRE simulation, your current progress will be saved and you will automatically be prompted to resume it when you next launch the same exam.

If you encounter the error message "Error #2130" it is due to a misconfiguration of your Adobe Flash Player's settings that prevent our practice test software from saving your progress to your computer's local hard drive. Use this troubleshooting page on Adobe's website to correct the problem. When you visit the page, insure that the item "Allow third-party Flash content to store data on your computer" is checked and that the slider is set to at least 100KB.

Our practice tests are best used when the student treats our simulated test as if it were the real test and completes every part under realistic conditions with no breaks or distractions. Our tests are not designed for practicing specific question types or for drills. Instead, they offer students the opportunity to simulate the real test and practice handling the rigors of the test experience in combination with the challenges of the questions themselves. Tutors typically offer one or two of our GRE Practice Tests to a student to find a baseline performance level, then they design a course of study for the student. Some offer another exam mid-way through the course, but others save the remaining tests until the end of the course. Your preference will depend on your current performance level and your goals. We typically recommend that you complete all the study and drills you intend to perform for GRE Test preparation. Afterwards, schedule time to complete our exams as if they were the real thing. If you score in your desired range, you should feel confident that you have met your goal and sit for the real GRE Test asap. If not, then address your weaknesses with more drilling or professional assistance.

Before our software will generate your unique exam session, you must enter a valid and unused access code on the session "Login" screen. Once the software validates this access code, it will be used to generate your simulated session from the current question pool and can not be used again. After you complete the simulated GRE test session, your used access code will be associated with your saved session data. You will need to enter this access code anytime you wish to load your saved session in order to review your score, the questions you received, the answer explanations, etc..

Our CATPrep Simulator for the GRE Test works in the same way as the actual GRE test by generating a custom exam session for each user by selecting questions from a large question pool according to the performance of the test taker. Our simulators are not intended for question drills or standard practice exercises. Instead, our software delivers an accurate reproduction of the actual exam. Our simulated sessions rely on large pools of questions that are continually updated to reflect changes in the real exams.

If your test preparation software is available on CD-ROM, you can be sure that it is at least several months (if not years!) old. Unlike these stale unadaptive exams, each of your simulated exams generated with our simulator is unique and the question pool used for your simulation is updated by our software engine when you login.

Therefore, you must login to the exam with Internet access. However, you can disconnect after the login page and continue the exam without an Internet connection if you prefer.

So, while it may be slightly inconvenient for some users to begin their simulated sessions while connected to the internet, it is a small price to pay for the ability to sit for a realistic test session with current questions, answers, and explanations.

Educational Testing Service makes several accommodations available to test takers with documented disabilities such as extended time, longer breaks, or differently contrasting background and foreground colors. Our Simulator recreates the actual nonstandard options available to these candidates and allows them to practice under the true conditions they will experience on test day.

In order to initiate an exam session using an approved disability configuration, simply select the 'Disability Configuration' choice on the Options menu before clicking the 'Login' button on the first screen (Login Screen) of the Simulator. After setting the desired options, click the 'OK' button in the bottom right-hand corner to return to the 'Login Screen'. Note that disability configuration options can not be set or modified after logging into a new exam session.
